Glasgow rooftop protest in Fathers campaign

CAMPAIGN group Fathers 4 Justice today staged a protest at the Scottish Labour Party's HQ in Glasgow city centre.
Two men dressed as Batman and Spiderman breached security at John Smith House at around 9am and unfurled a banner on the roof.
The campaigners stood defiantly for more than an hour 50 feet above West Regent Street as the Strathclyde Police helicopter circled the building.
Spiderman James Robertson, from Stirling, and Batman Paul Colquhoun, from Glasgow, agreed to come down from the building at around 10.25am.
A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said two men aged 30 and 37 were arrested and taken to Stewart Street Police Office.
It was the latest in a series of high profile protests which have already included action at the Holyrood Parliament and Buckingham Palace.

Two men wearing Santa suits have climbed onto the Scottish Parliament building  in Edinburgh. The stunt comes ahead of the first public meeting in Scotland to  be held by Fathers 4 Justice. The group has warned that its targets will be  politicians and sheriffs involved in custody cases and that it does not rule out  civil disobedience.

Fathers 4 Justice says it organised a meeting in Stirling for Tuesday night in response to many calls for help. The men are on the bamboo-style structure above the public entrance at Holyrood and police are at the scene.

A senior officer has been lifted by hydraulic arm up to the  men in an attempt to persuade them to come down. We hope the Scottish Parliament will take heed, unlike the Westminster Parliament which seems to be deaf to what we are saying

They are perched on the canopy about 50ft from the ground  and have unfurled a banner declaring: "Welcome to Fathers 4 Justice country."  Fathers 4 Justice describes itself as a "civil rights movement campaigning for a  child's right to see both parents and grandparents".

It says it has 12,000 members across the UK and but wants to heighten its profile in Scotland,  where there are said to be about 400 members.

Family law reforms planned for Scotland aim to introduce better access for unmarried fathers.

Prior  to the stunt at Holyrood, the group warned that landmarks such as the parliament  and the Forth Bridges could be targeted.

Matt O'Connor, founder of Fathers 4 Justice, said one of the men was Dave Pyke,  who chained himself to the gates of Buckingham Palace in a recent protest. The  men are perched on the structure above the entrance

"They are going to be  up there for most of the day - they're hardy people," he went on.

"It's  Saint Andrew's Day and we have a lot of activists in Scotland ready to start  action from this point onwards.

"We want to send a message to the  Scottish Parliament in the same way we sent a message to the Westminster  Parliament.

"We are no longer prepared to tolerate the separation of children from their parents.

"That's what this campaign is about - giving children the right to see both parents.

"We hope the Scottish Parliament will take heed, unlike the Westminster Parliament which seems to be deaf to what we are saying."
